The process of creating my website

Before starting the process of creating my website, I had to decide what website builder to use in order to ensure that I created a website, that first and foremost conformed to the conventions of a music artists website. I researched the market of website builders and owing to both cost and accessibility I narrowed my options down to two website builders, Wix.com and weebly.com, both who are the market leaders in their particular field. From these two website builders I researched reviews from participants who had previously used both websites to construct a website. From what I found from my research into both website builders I concluded that Wix.com would be the more suitable option owing to both the website being free to use and that from my research previous users were highly positive about how accessibility of the site was.

After signing up with Wix.com, I had to decide what colour scheme I wanted to follow. Conventionally electronic dance music DJ’s follow two particular colour schemes, the first being black and white and the second being vibrant neon coloured. I opted for following a vibrant colour scheme as is I believed that this was most suitable for how I wanted Martin Garrix to be perceived from my website I believe that this vibrant colour scheme connotes joy, success and resilience, something that EDM helps to advocate. Owing to his I had to edit my photos on photoshop accordingly to enhance the quality of the images that I had chosen to include on my website. I had four main photos which combined created the background of my website. I needed four photos to form the background of my website along with three photos of the chosen artists, Martin Garrix, who was modelled by Benedict. All the photos I needed, I uploaded onto Wix.com before starting the construction of my website.

As I started to construct my website I started by constructing my homepage. The basis of my homepage are four establishing shots, all of which have been enhanced to conform to the vibrant colour scheme of my website.  After I had constructed the basis of my website I had to decide on what photo I would promote. I concluded that the first focal point of the homepage should be to promote the track that I had chosen to use for my music video, ‘Ocean’. I did this by creating a cover for the song in which is used one of the pictures of Benedict. I added a 30 second snip it of the song from Spotify and imbedded this just under the album cover, in addition to a link that stated, ‘listen to my new single’, where by users of the website would be directed to the song. Underneath this is chose to include my music video that I had previously created. I imbedded the video from YouTube allowing users to view the music video from the homepage. I placed the video over an artist picture of a glass building that I had taken in Copenhagen and had chosen to include. My music video explored the issues of homelessness in the 21stcentury, and as a mark of respect included the logo of ‘Porchlight’ a leading charity in the United Kingdom that on a daily basis, tackle homelessness and provide shelter for those less fortunate. The third section of my homepage advertised Martin Garrix’s ‘What it’s all About’ tour in the United Kingdom. For this I added an event box from Wix and created my own event through adding dates and venues as well as creating different value of tickets. For example, the standing ticket which costed £60 was far cheaper than the VIP ticket which was £175 per person. The final section of my homepage was promoting the audio-visual element that I created for my website. This was an exclusive ‘Would you Rather’ question and answer session whereby, Martin Garrix answered music related would you rather question. I chose to create a ‘Would You Rather question because I believe these type of video are desirable and conventional to artists website as they create a sense of escapism by allowing audiences to see where your views aline with yours.

Once I had constructed the bases of my home page, I needed to create the title of webpage. For this I simply chose to just use my chosen artist name, Martin Garrix as the heading to make the website instantly associated and recognisable to him. For my title I had to choose a text which from that point onwards would be used constituently throughout my website. I chose to use the font ‘Caudex’ throughout my website. For my chosen title is used a glow effect around the text to enhance their appearance anchoring the factor they are of significance. All title and text apart from the menu bar are in white. This was owing to white being the ideal colour to contrast the colour of text against from the vibrant background colours.

I added social media icons to my website, linking each individual icon to the artist social media in all major platforms. I chose to stick the icons to the screen which meant when the user chooses to scroll the ideas will move with the user constantly being in frame and interactive. The icons are all white which contrasts against the vibrant backgrounds.

I added an interactive map on my website, identifying to all users where Martin Garrix record label stmpd rcdrs are located in Amsterdam Netherland, every close to where he was born in 1996. The map is located at the bottom of the homepage and is the occupies the whole width of the page, taking dominance over the background image.

For my second linking page I chose to create a page that both promoted and advertised Martin Garrix’s latest tour in the United Kingdom ‘What it’s All About’. For this is created a new event in wix, which allowed me to add and vary locations as well as providing each location to a certain date as well as adding a wide array of tickets available for purchase. The tickets I included range from £60 to £235 as well as providing each ticket information about the certain ticket and each venue. The event created produced a list identifying both the date, location and price of the event as well as providing information about the O2, Manchester Area and Echo Arena.

Owing to Wix.com I was able to construct an impressive, artistic and. Conventional website that first and foremost promotes my chosen artist. Wix was easy to navigate and allowed great participation between my own personal images and text and their website, helping to produce a professional looking website.
