Editing my Music Video - Things to Consider
Editing my Music Video - Things to Consider
· What editing software to use when editing?
Editing is a crucial part of the music video, where effects can be added that deepen a narrative which can influence the audience. Owing to their being a crowded market of editing software, I am looking to use one that is both free and reliable. iMovie form the off start has seen to be my preferred option owing to it being readily installed into Apple Mac’s and the positive experiences that I have had with it on previous projects.
· What, if any, filters to use?
I believe that filters help to ameliorate current footage. Filters, is fitting, help to deepen the narrative of a music video. For example monochrome filters capture a sombre atmosphere, used when oppression and sadness is wished to be conveyed to the audience. Filter are also used to either present a previous memory or future situation. Through filters audiences can recognise whether the footage is intended for the present or the past.
· What footage to include?
Filming usually contains a vast amount of footage that does not make it into the music video. I must be critical when evaluating footage to ensure that I include all the footage I believe is fitting, but also identify what scenes may need re-filming, to ensure an optimum outcome for my music video. This may be the most fundamental role, owing to it distinguishing between footage that may and may not feature in my video.
· What pace of transitions I wish my video to use?
Conventionally, dance music videos use fast paced transitions in order to replicate a fast and engaging video, which connotes adventure, joy and happiness. However, narratives are also central for music video and often relate to quite serious social issues. Within these videos low placed transitions are used, this enables the audience to focus on footage of social issue for a slightly longer period of time, helping to raise the artist’ intended issue.
· Editing can be a long and arduous task (timings)
I must stay patient whilst editing owing to it being a fundamental task. Editing may take some time, but I will need to dedicate sufficient time to it to ensure that I achieve an outcome, one that I am firstly proud of, but more importantly follows the set brief. Editing is the final process of the video and the part at which the narrative starts to take shape in and in visual codes explains a narrative to my chosen 16-26 AB demographic.
