Would You Rather with Martin Garrix

Question 1

Would I rather listen to my least favourite genre of music for 24 hours or never listen to my favourite genre for 6 months?

Haha, being a musician, it seems all I do is listen to the music I am either working on, or listening to my favourite artists like Drake, Travis Scott and Tiesto. It may sound a bit cynical, but electronic dance music is my passion and my favourite genre. I can’t imagine being in world where I can’t even listen to my own music and 6 months without my own music would feel like a life time. So for that reason I would rather listen to my least favourite genre of music for 24 hours.

Question 2

Would I rather join an amazing but very underrated band or join a bad but very famous band?

For me being a musician isn’t about fame of being a so-called celebrity it is about producing
Music that I know will help to brighten people days and bring happiness into a very complicated and confused world. So, this question is an absolute no brainer, I would rather join an amazing but very underrated band. Being a musician for the wrong reasons is futile, for me it is the joy of people listening to my music which provides me with the motivation to both create and produce music.

Question 3

Would I rather like a genre of music that everyone hates or hate a genre that everyone likes?

Music, I believe is such as personal thing and I believe it can’t be justified to state that a genre is simply bad because you don’t like it. My music taste may differ to another person’s and owing to our contrasting taste I believe that neither of us have poor taste in music, they are just different. The level of objectivity within the music industry, I believe is a fundamental factory to why it is such a pivotal industry in the 21stcentury.

Question 4

Do I prefer touring or producing music?

Producing music is a central part of my life and the reason why I love waking up and going to work every day. From the age of 8 I dreamt of being a DJ when I saw Tiesto perform at the 2004 Olympics opening ceremony in Athens, I knew it was what I aspired to do. However, touring is the most incredible experience and being a travel enthusiast, it has allowed me to visit places I never thought I would ever visit, experience cultures I never thought I would and have met some of the most inspiring people whilst touring, so for that reason I have to choose touring as all the experience of touring have shaped me into the artist I am today
