‘Gentleman's Quarterly’ abbreviated their name in 1967 to ‘GQ’. This was done by Art Cooper who transformed the magazine and changed its course. He introduced articles beyond fashion and established ‘GQ’ as a general men's magazine in competition with ‘Esquire’. Cooper also decided to change the magazine from quarterly to monthly. This subsequently increase the copies that the magazine sold each year hugely.
In 1988 ‘British GQ’ was first published, this was the first international version of the magazine. The publication focuses on fashion, style and men's culture.
’GQ’ have reported that they have over 940,000 copies in circulation each month. 610,000 of the 940,000 are subscriptions. 73% of their readership are men, and 63% are single. ‘GQ’ is published in 22 different countries across the world. However around 90% of their readership live in the U.K and the U.S.‘GQ’ has become iconic for it sophistication among men’s style and culture. The magazine also covers politics, sport, travel, food and wine, fitness, health and relationships.
