Analysis of Music Artists Websites

Martin Garrix 

Martin Garrix uses his website first and foremost as a promotional tool. The proxemically central image on his website is of his photography album which is available for pre-order. This dominates his home page and has a red button placed adjacently next to the image which would activate pre orders. It is significant that the button is in red as it is alarming and due to its brightness captures the attention of the homepage. Garrix’s Life = Crazy photography album has been set as the background the website. This further promotes it the album showing its personal significance to Garrix. This has been done to tempt fans of his music to buy a photography album which depicts the way Martin Garrix would like to be perceived. Martin Garrix has chosen to use a monochrome colour scheme for his home page. The use Monochrome allows as sophisticated finish which draws the attention away from the colour scheme on the website and towards the music artist and his work. Martin Garrix has his logo positioned on the top left of the screen. Garrix’s logo is multipurpose, it firstly advertises him an artist, acknowledges that the website is proposed for his works and also works as the home button on the website, directing users on any webpage on the site back to the homepage. Garrix’s logo was inspired by his iconic mathematical addition symbol. This is significant as his logo makes him instantly recognisable as an artist.

Martin Garrix has an interactive monochrome menu bar positioned across the top of the home page. The bar has seven linking pages: Home, Tour, Music, Shop, Contact and Ade 2018.  This is fundamental for a website promoting a music artist, as it is imperative that the website is user friendly and easy to navigate in order to ensure that visiting participant of the website are satisfied and fell inclined to revisit. The tour button directs you to bands in town website, where all his future and upcoming tour will be held, the timings and the dates. As well as providing additional information on pricing and availability of tickets. The Music button on the homepage directs you to a webpage in which all of Martin Garrix’s song both produced, create and featuring him are available. The tracks are placed in rows of three, showing the singles cover with a florescent red banner underneath stating ‘Listen Now’. The directness of the banner is encouraging people to listen to his songs which will result in a wider listenership which will ultimately lead to a larger revenue for the artist. Martin Garrix’s website adversities his fellow online clothing website. The off-shoot website too follows the monochrome styling and has chosen to promote his clothing by allowing himself modelling all of the men’s clothing. 

Martin Garrix has a section labelled ‘latest releases’ on his home page. This is located on the lower end of his home page and contains a large square which dominates the webpage. Within this page Garrix has nine of his most recent single covers poisoned in three rows of three. This is significant as it allows fans of Martin Garrix to stay abreast with his most musical activities, which will strengthen his relationship with his audience. Garrix is continuing his monochrome theme through having all of his text in a relatively small front either being contrasted by a black background with white text, or a white background with black text. Martin Garrix’s website is rather simplistic, but effective to navigate for all users. The website first and foremost promotes him and his music helping to build a relationship with his loyal audience.  The website is clear and easy to operate making it assessable to all, showing his will for inclusion and participation within his fan base. 


Khalid

Khalid’s homepage contains a pastel coloured image of him with the the Stars and Stripes flag draped across his shoulders. The image is Significant as it conveys Khalid’s patriotism. This is intentionally targeting his target audience who primarily reside in the United States. Within the United States he is the seconds most streamed artist after Drake. The image was taken in the desert in Texas. Khalid grew up in El Paso, which is a city that resides near large areas of desert. The location of the image is important as it is portrays Khalid as a humble being, owing to him not forgetting where he and his music originates from, even when he has travelled the world and is a recognisable figure world-wide. This image has been used as the background for the homepage on Khalid’s website.  Placed adjacent to the image of khalid is the login for his newsletter. You can either login or sign up via this addition on the homepage. Owing to it being located on the homepage, it will most certainly increase the readership of his newlsetter both prompting Khalid as an artist and building a stronger relationship with his fanbase. 

Khalid’s Logo is positioned on the top right of the home page. Khalid’s logo is simplistic; just spelling his name in a crimson front. The use of the font is simplistic, this is Significant as it conveys his personality owing to him being renoundly known for being calming and inclusive. Positioned on the bottom right of the homepage are five icons. These icons represent all media platforms that Khalid has a following on. The icons include: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Spotify. It is imperative that Khalid recognises the media platform that he has a wide following on in order to show to his audience his the appreciation to his followers and to gain a increased following through advertising media platforms that he could be followed on. 

On his homepage, Khalid has his latest music videos uploaded to YouTube, available to watch directly from his homepage. There are buttons either side of the Video enabling interactivity, allowing users to change between his recent videos. Music videos are created to promotes the music that artists through making a narrative based around a particular song that can be told. Located beneath the changeable music videos are Khalid’s upcoming tour date. These are a convention of a music artists website and are imperative in order to keep their fanbase abreast of the location, date and timing of his performances. This section also allows fans visiting the site to also buy tickets with a link stating ‘get tickets’ next to each date. This is important for khalid both enabling his fans to buy tickets from a reliable site and ensures that Khalid as an artists can generate the largest amount of revenue by selling the largest volume of tickets possible. Located in the centre of the homepage is a link, locating users to Khalid’s merchandise store on a separate website.

Located at the bottom of the homepage is a second image of Khalid, once again reinforcing his patriotism. Khalid is sitting in a Ford Mustang with the Stars and Stripes flag tied around the wingmirror.
